Every Saturday is the same. Well actually, it starts with Friday.
I start dreaming about all the things I want to do with my weekend and match them to the list of “have-to’s” already on the list.
Come Saturday morning, while drinking my coffee, I look at the list and I start to feel tired and overwhelmed. No matter how many things are on the list, I start thinking there’s no way I can possibly get all of it done. Then I start looking line by line at each item listed to see what can get moved off to another day, week or month. Few of the items can disappear altogether, though.
Most of the time, anything fun I want to do, gets shoved way down on the list and if there’s time and energy when the “have-to’s” are done, then I’ll try to squeeze something in.
The one thing that never makes my list though, is time to myself for a relaxing hot bath, cuddling up with cocoa and reading by the fire, or getting a mani/pedi.
Well, I am here to say that today I shoved all my “have-to’s” to the bottom of my list and spent the afternoon with other women where we learned about how to take care of ourselves and not feel guilty about it. I applaud women who value themselves enough to always take time to relax and just be still.
It was a great time of laughing, meeting new people and even practicing relaxing. And you know what? I loved it. I loved it so much that I’m starting a new rule. Every time I make a list, I’m going to put something on there that is relaxing for me and it’s NOT going to get shoved off the list by a heaping pile of laundry or a layer of inch-thick dust on every surface of my home.
I know it’s important for me to take care of myself and relaxing is a big part of that. What I have to remember is that I’m as valuable or more valuable than anything else on “the list.”
Let’s see how long I can do this.
